Traveling during the pandemic. Should I or Shouldn't I?

"I've got to go SOMEWHERE!" I hear this statement daily from clients, friends and family. I feel the exact same.

Inevitably, the next question is, "Should I, or shouldn't I?". I wrestle with the same question. The answer is not "one size fits all". Deciding if/when to travel is a big decision. In the era of a pandemic, it's more about comfort level and setting expectations as opposed to cost and time off work.

My comments and suggestions below are not meant to persuade or dissuade, simply to assist and inform.

There are a few questions to consider before reaching out to your travel advisor:

- I am comfortable traveling while wearing a mask and willing to abide by each state/ countries mask and social distancing requirements?

- Am I able/willing to get the required test prior to departure?

- I am going to be disappointed if some things are operating a little differently?

- Is my passport up to date? It must be valid 6 months after you return. Government offices are running short staffed, so turnaround times will be slower.

- MOST IMPORTANTLY - Will traveling restore your spirit and give you the sense of normalcy you are craving?

If asking yourself the above questions point to, "Let's get out of here", keep in mind:

- Flights are not as plentiful with fewer nonstop options.

- Hotels and Resorts may be less busy, which is great!

- Incredible pricing is avaliable to entice travelers to visit over the next couple of months.

- All bets are off when it comes to those same great prices over the holiday season.

- Properties will be thrilled you are visiting which can translate into a more VIP experience.

- Restaurants may limit capacity.

- Tours and activities may look different than in the past.

Regardless of your decision to travel now or later, keep your head up and love the people in your life. Like my dad says, "This too shall pass".
